Language and Cognition in Argumentation (LANCAR) is a thematic research group based at the Amsterdam Center for Language and Communication (ACLC) at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Amsterdam.

The researchers involved in LANCAR come from different disciplinary backgrounds. By conjoining their expertise, they aim to complement existing approaches to argumentation with linguistically advanced models of argument processing, assessment and production. In several cross-disciplinary projects, traditional insights from the history and philosophy of argument are combined with cutting-edge theories and research methods from various subfields of linguistics.
