Argumentum a maiore

Humans don’t know everything because even the gods don’t know everything.

The subjects are different and the predicates are the same, so the argument form is beta (a is X because b is X): “Humans (a) don’t know everything (X) because even the gods (b) don’t know everything (X)”.

Both the conclusion and the premise are universal statements (u), so the argument substance is uu: “Humans don’t know everything (u) because even the gods don’t know everything (u)”.

The keyword MORE RECEPTIVE describes the relationship between subjects a and b. The argument lever can thus be formulated as “Humans are (a) MORE RECEPTIVE than the gods (b)”.

Other examples

I can’t solve this equation because even Einstein can’t solve this equation.

Notes

Like with the argumentum a minore, one could argue this is an alpha form argument. The reconstruction would then go something like this: “Not knowing everything (a) belongs to humans (X) because not knowing everything (a) belongs to the gods (Y) and “belonging to the gods (Y) is MORE PROBABLE than belonging to humans (X)”. And the other example can be reconstructed as an alpha argument as follows: “Solving this equation (a) can’t be done by me (X) because solving this equation (a) can’t be done by Einstein (Y)” and “can be done by Einstein (Y) is MORE PROBABLE than can be done by me (X)”.
